The Art Festival
About Me
An art therapist specializes in the healing of individuals with use of participation in art-focused activities that allow participants to better communicate and understand the things that are afflicting them in their everyday lives. I want to become an art therapist because it combines three of my main areas of interest: art, service, and psychology. As a senior at Santa Susana High School, my focus lies in visual arts and I have a motivation towards volunteerism. I participate in several clubs at school, including: Palette Pals (Art Club), Key Club, Interact, CSF (California Scholarship Federation), and Drumline. Outside of school, I am also involved in the Rancho Santa Susana Recreation and Park District volunteer program. I volunteer weekly with the goals of giving back to the community that has made me who I am today and learning from those who come from different backgrounds than myself.
I applied to colleges based off my interest in being an art therapist and have received partial scholarships from all of them as well as offers to be in some of their University Honors Programs.
Sam first asked me to join her with working on the Art Festival in the summertime before senior year. I helped set up the event last year and wanted to carry on the message of the festival to our senior year. The Art Festival is an event dedicated to showcasing the hard work and talent of visual arts students at Santa Susana High School, a program not often displayed at events. By preserving the festival as an art gallery with art-related activities, I am staying true to the way I believe the Art Festival should be done.
In the making of the Art Festival, I was mainly responsible for filling out all of the forms required for us to put on the event, organizing coffee donations, organizing live music, making all of the flyers/signs, communicating to others involved, maintaining Palette Pals so that we can fund-raise at the event, promoting the event to the greatest extent possible, and a few other minor jobs.
As I am an artist myself, my portfolio from my AP Studio Art Drawing class last year is available to the right. My current portfolio is a 3D Design portfolio, but it is not yet complete. The portfolio to the right features a series of works in a breadth and concentration portfolio. The breadth covers a wide range of mediums and techniques, but the concentration focuses on the idea of art therapy assignments. Each work is a fully-rendered version of what I would draw for each prompt I came up with.
